In a pair of close encounters, the West Side Milwaukee Harlequins came away with two narrow victories over the Chicago Griffins A-side, their Division I rival in the CARFU cup. In the first match, the Harlequins dominated the scrum and line-out and thus enjoyed the majority of possession. Following an unconverted try by Jeff Noe and a penalty by Dom Kasten, the half-time score was 8-0 for the 'Quins. In the second half, the Griffins found their form in the set piece and eventually scored an unconverted try. Despite constant pressure by the home team, the Quins defended for much of the second half to hang on for an 8-5 victory on the road. The B-side match started out less favorably for the 'Quins who found themselves 10-points behind at the break with a score of 15-5. An unconverted try by Thoman Kloiber kept the visitors in the running against a motivated Griffins side who put over 3 tries in the half. However, the Quin's dug deep in the second half on defense and held the home team to there 15-point scoreline. On offense, Chris Baumgart and Mark Tobin touched-down for 5-a-piece with Thomas Kloiber adding the some extras for a satisfying 17-15, come-from-behind victory.
